Contraindications to Sports Massage

If you think you have a condition which may prevent you from having sports massage treatment then check the list of contraindications to see if you need GP referral.
Conditions which require authorisation from a GP include:
- Osteoporosis
- rheumatoid arthritis
- ankylosing spondylitis
- inflammation of joints
- nerve injury/impingement
- multiple sclerosis
- parkinson's disease
- shingles
- chicken pox
- stroke
- epilepsy
- deep vein thrombosis
- embolism
- atherosclerosis
- hypotension (low blood pressure)
- hypertension (high blood pressure)
- heart failures
- heart murmurs
- angina pectoris
- heart disease
- severe diabetes
- haemophilia
- systemic oedema
- lymphangitis
- septicaemia
- cancer
- post operative
- HIV
- unstable pregnancy
- undiagnosed lumps/masses
- undiagnosed pain.
